This book covers dermatological and related esthetic concerns specific to female patients. Since knowing what's normal is as important as knowing what's not, first chapters covers physiological differences in the skin of women and the changes during puberty, pregnancy, and menopause. Die Entdeckung der Vitamine und ihre chemische Synthese hatte eben erst begonnen. WINDAUS und WIELAND hatten durch ihre Arbeiten auf dem Gebiet der Sterine und Gallensaure die Voraussetzungen fiir die Aufklarung der chemischen Konstitution der Sexualhormone und Nebennierenrindenhormone geschaffen. Die Chemie der Hypophysenhormone hat in den letzten 10 Jahren gewaltige Fortschritte gemacht, und die chemische Konstitution des adreno­ corticotropen Hormons ist heute weitgehend bekannt. Die Entdeckung der Antimykotica entwickelte sich parallel mit derjenigen der Antibiotica. Die fermentative Darstellung des Griseofulvins, das bereits im Jahre 1938 isoliert wurde, war nur moglich durch die Erfahrungen, die man bei der biochemischen Darstellung der Antibiotica gesammelt hat. Die Entwicklung der Cytostatica ist nicht nur von der chemischen Seite befruchtet worden, sie verdankt der Antibioticaforschung durch die Isolierung von Actinomycin C wertvolle An­ regungen. Die Chemotherapie der verschiedensten Formen der Hauttuberkulose ist durch die Entdeckung des Isonicotinsaurehydrazids nahezu vollkommen gelost. Wesentliche Impulse gingen aber auch auf diesem Gebiet von der Ent­ deckung der Antibiotica, insbesondere des Streptomycins mit seiner hohen Wirk­ samkeit gegen Mycobacterium tuberculosis aus.
