Heidegger

The Kosmic Web
We live in the midst of a vast universe. Currently, our sciences enable us to perceive less than 5% of it. The rest is designated dark energy and dark matter. This means 95% of the universe effectively remains a mystery. In "The Kosmic Web" human beings who have completed their cycles of incarnation offer intriguing insights into the mystery of all existence. Drawing on the ideas and vocabulary of current scientific and evolutionary thinking, they present fascinating yet often challenging observations on how the spiritual, biological, energetic, material and metaphysical aspects of reality interlace to form and sustain the extended kosmos. Ideas explored include:The origin of our universe as part of a multiverse The multiverse as an experiment in evolving consciousnessThe interlaced energetic layers that underpin all that existsThe origins and developmental nature of human identityThe ways spiritual identities co-associate with biological speciesThe purpose and process of reincarnationThe aura's developmental and communicative functionsThe concept of spiritual space and humanityís place in itThe ultimate intention and meaning of human existenceFor those seeking to understand the what, how and why of their lives, "The Kosmic Web" provides thrilling new concepts for understanding humanity's position in the multi-layered web of life.[From the book]: ¿¿"What if you could access trans-human explanations of reality? Human beings need to break free of the constant flow of their everyday impressions, feelings and thoughts in order to perceive what lies beyond the everyday, whereas we, as non-embodied identities, automatically have an overview of human existence that extends far beyond what any human can perceive. In asserting this, we make no claim for God-like knowledge. We are just another form of spiritual identity, the same type as you but at a different phase of our growth cycle. Our role is currently that of informant and guide. In this book we focus on two specific aspects of pertinent information. These are the nature of reality, and the source and purpose of human identity."

Vernunft, Wissen, Glaube

The Question of Being in Western and African Analytic Metaphysics
The main aim of this book is to discuss fundamental developments on the question of being in Western and African philosophy using analytic metaphysics as a framework. It starts with the two orthodox responses to the question of being, namely, the subject-verb-object language view and the rheomodic language view. In the first view, being is conceived through the analysis of language structure, where it is represented by subjects (particulars), objects, and relations (often universals). In the second view, there are different variations; however, the common idea is that the world's structure is revealed in the root verb of terms. This suggests a holistic and dynamic conception of being, where everything is in a continuous process of action. The book builds on analytic philosophy and explores metaphysical concepts such as space-time, modality, causation, indeterminism versus determinism, and mind and body. The book shows that in both Western and African thought, (i) similarities in different studies confirm that philosophy is a universal activity, (ii) differences within a context and beyond confirm the perspectival nature of human knowledge as individuals attempt to interpret reality, and (iii) language influences the conceptualization of being in a particular area. One of the novel aspects is the development of visual and mathematical African models of space and time.

Formal Methods for the Analysis of Biomedical Ontologies
The book synthesizes research on the analysis of biomedical ontologies using formal concept analysis, including through auditing, curation, and enhancement. As the evolution of biomedical ontologies almost inevitably involves manual work, formal methods are a particularly useful tool for ontological engineering and practice, particularly in uncovering unexpected "bugs" and content materials. The book first introduces simple but formalized strategies for discovering undesired and incoherent patterns in ontologies before exploring the application of formal concept analysis for semantic completeness. The book then turns to formal concept analysis, a classical approach used in the mathematical treatment of orders and lattices, as an ontological engineering principle, focusing on the structural property of ontologies with respect to its conformation to lattice or not (non-lattice). The book helpfully covers the development of more efficient algorithms for non-latticedetection and extraction required by exhaustive lattice/non-lattice analysis. The book goes on to highlight the power and utility of uncovering non-lattice structure for debugging ontologies and describes methods that leverage the linguistic information in concept names (labels) for ontological analysis. It also addresses visualization and performance evaluation issues before closing with an overview and forward-looking perspectives on the field.
This book is intended for graduate students and researchers interested in biomedical ontologies and their applications. It can be a useful supplement for courses on knowledge representation and engineering and also provide readers with a reference for related scientific publications and literature to assist in identifying potential research topics. All mathematical concepts and notations used in this book can be found in standard discrete mathematics textbooks, and the appendix at the end of the book provides a list of key ontological resources, as well as annotated non-lattice and lattice examples that were discovered using the authors' methods, demonstrating how "bugs are fixed" by converting non-lattices to lattices with minimal edit changes.

Iron Filings or Scribblings
To introduce her book, Eva Brann calls up the image of Iron Filings as they "settle themselves along the lines of force that form a field of influence around a bar magnet that has itself been allowed to settle itself in its natural direction. The whole configuration makes, by nature's wit, a suggestive figure for the thinking mind-at least of a cross-section in its life." These essays range from Ms. Brann's thoughts "Of God," "Of Novels," "Of Booklessness," to, well, a surprising diversity of topics, the final one, fittingly "Of Endings." Eva Brann thinks a thought and then thinks a thought at the other end of the pole of the first thought-hence the display of thought like iron filings around two ends of a magnet.

Philosophy of Finitude
Examining the legacies of Heidegger, along with Derrida, Levinas and Nietzsche, Rafael Winkler argues that it is not the search for truth or even contradictions that stimulates philosophical thought. Instead, it is our exposure to the unthinkable or the impossible - to thought's own limits. An experience of the unthinkable is possible in our encounter with the uniqueness of death, the singularity of being, and of the self and the other. This 'thinking of finitude' also has political implications, as it provides us with a way to talk about, and evaluate, absolute strangeness and, by implication, the absolute stranger or foreigner.Illuminating Heidegger's writings on the question of ontology, ethics and history, Winkler proves that this encounter with thought's limits is one of the mainstays of the philosophies of difference of Heidegger, Levinas, and Nietzsche.

Vague Objects and Vague Identity
This unique anthology of new, contributed essays offers a range of perspectives on various aspects of ontic vagueness. It seeks to answer core questions pertaining to onticism, the view that vagueness exists in the world itself. The questions to be addressed include whether vague objects must have vague identity, and whether ontic vagueness has a distinctive logic, one that is not shared by semantic or epistemic vagueness. The essays in this volume explain the motivations behind onticism, such as the plausibility of mereological vagueness and indeterminacy in quantum mechanics and they offer various arguments both for and against ontic vagueness; onticism is also compared with other, competing theories of vagueness such as semanticism, the view that vagueness exists only in our linguistic representation of the world.Gareth Evans's influential paper of 1978, "Can There Be Vague Objects?" gave a simple but cogent argument against the coherence of ontic vagueness. Onticism was subsequently dismissed by many. However, in recent years, researchers have become aware of the logical gaps in Evans's argument and this has triggered a new wave of interest in onticism. Onticism is now widely regarded as at least a coherent view. Reflecting this growing consensus, the present anthology for the first time puts together essays that are focused on onticism and its various facets and it fills in the lacuna in the literature on vagueness, a much-discussed subject in contemporary philosophy.
