Warum Identitätspolitik wichtig istWas ist das Anliegen von Identitätspolitik? Weshalb werden so viele von dieser Vokabel getriggert? Wie konnte es dazu kommen, dass das Bemühen, der Gleichheit aller Menschen Geltung zu verschaffen, in die Kritik geriet? Und wie lässt sich erklären, dass sich nun auch eine rechte Spielart der Identitätspolitik etabliert hat? Schließlich: Wie könnte ein Neustart emanzipatorischer Identitätspolitik aussehen, der nicht in die Gefahr gerät, ihr Erbe zu verraten? Noch vor wenigen Jahren stand die Identitätspolitik mit ihrer Kritik an Rassismus und anderen Formen der Diskriminierung im Zentrum der öffentlichen Aufmerksamkeit. Betroffene fanden zueinander und forderten gleichberechtigte Teilhabe an der Gesellschaft. Themen wie die deutsche Kolonialgeschichte oder die rassistische Durchsetzung der Alltagssprache waren in aller Munde, bislang gültige Ordnungskriterien wurden in Frage gestellt.Dann begann sich das politische Gewicht zu verschieben. 'Woke' wurde zu einem Schimpfwort von rechts, und in Praxis und Methoden identitätspolitischer Anliegen zeigten sich Schwächen: ein unterkomplexes Verständnis der Performativität von Sprache, die Missachtung wissenschaftlicher Standards, die Ausklammerung ökonomischer Zusammenhänge und die Reproduktion zentraler neoliberaler Versatzstücke. Spätestens seit dem Massaker der Hamas in Israel am 7. Oktober 2023 und seiner antisemitischen Relativierung scheinen breite Teile der Bewegung auf den politischen Bankrott zuzusteuern.Wie konnte es dazu kommen? Lars Distelhorst nimmt die philosophischen Grundannahmen und Methoden der Identitätspolitik unter die Lupe und wagt einen Neuansatz. Eine Umkehr im Denken lohnt sich, denn die neoliberale Ökonomisierung und ihre Machtmechanismen sind nicht nur tief in unsere Subjektivität vorgedrungen, sondern haben die bisherigen Errungenschaften der Identitätspolitik auch erfolgreich vereinnahmt. This book investigates the role and influence of non-state actors (NSAs) and local authorities in the process leading to the adoption of the 2018 Global Compact for Migration (GCM), the first intergovernmental negotiation of its kind at the UN. The research draws upon methods initially applied to assess global climate negotiations, and for the first time analyzes the influence of NSAs and local authorities in an international negotiation on migration. It builds on an assessment of the state of the art on global migration governance, adding new perspectives and insights. The analysis of the influence of NSAs and local authorities is backed by an online survey of participating stakeholders, interviews with key actors, and hundreds of other primary sources obtained from the process. The author finds that the UN system's willingness to onboard NSAs was key to creating the GCM as it stands today. While the research finds little direct influence from NSAs during the negotiations, the first draft of the GCM was very much informed by their input. Local authorities, still new to the global stage, made the case for their further inclusion in global migration governance.

From the medieval period until the Victorian era, Aberdeen was comprised of two separate burghs, Old Aberdeen and New Aberdeen. Old Aberdeen was centered on St. Machar's Cathedral when King David I established a new bishopric there around 1125. New Aberdeen, a burgh since 1214, was an important regional market town and port. The two burghs in Aberdeen each had their own burgh council, burgess roll, court, college, and other institutions that maintained their own records. The two burghs merged in the mid-19th century to establish a unified city. Aberdeen became the major city in north-east Scotland, with its economy based on industries such as shipbuilding, whaling, herring fishing, woolens such as stocking-making, and papermaking.This book contains references to people from Aberdeen at home and abroad between 1800 and 1850. The entries bring together emigrants, their destinations, especially in North America, the West Indies, and Australasia, with their kin who remained in Scotland. The information is derived from a wide range of sources such as court records, contemporary newspapers and journals, monumental inscriptions, and documents found in archives. The Statistical Report of Scotland (OSA), compiled between 1791 and 1799, and the New Statistical Report, conducted between 1832 and 1845, are especially helpful for understanding the rapid changes in Scottish society brought about by the agricultural and industrial revolutions during this period. This work should enable researchers with roots in Aberdeen to put their family into a historical context.

This open access book focuses on Albanian internal and international female migration and places gender at the heart of postsocialist transformation. It explores the vulnerabilities that arise for female citizens from the contradictory policies produced by the Albanian state.
