This volume comprises the select proceedings of the 3rd Biennial International Conference on Future Learning Aspects of Mechanical Engineering (FLAME) 2022. It aims to provide a comprehensive and broad-spectrum picture of the state-of-the-art research and development in engineering design. Various topics covered include engineering system, synthesis of mechanism, failure analysis, solid and structural mechanics, contact mechanics, multi-body dynamics, fracture mechanics, vibration and acoustics, etc. This volume will prove a valuable resource for researchers and professionals in the area of mechanical engineering, especially engineering design and allied fields.

Additive manufacturing is considered a key technology for digital production. However, several barriers towards the broad industrial application exist, e.g. the associated cost and the required experience regarding the manufacturing process. To eradicate these barriers, the complete digitalization of the value creation process is needed. In this thesis, a digital, automated support structuredesign procedure is developed. Topology optimization is used for design rule determination, and the space colonization algorithm is adapted for the automated design. The validity of the procedure is proven experimentally, revealing sufficient mechanical performance alongside cost reduction at medium to large production scales.

Orientalischer Schmuck steht für Schönheit, Reichtum, aber auch Macht und hat in traditionellen Gesellschaften auch eine magische Funktion. Er wurde getragen, um vor Unheil zu schützen, aber auch um Segen zu erlangen.Die Silberschmiede verwendeten so unterschiedliche Materialien wie Gold, Silber (auch in Form von Münzen), Korallen, edle Steine, Perlen, Bernstein und Fayence. Doch der klassische Schmuck besteht in erster Linie aus Silber. Frauen erhielten diesen als Geschenk zur Hochzeit und häufig als Mitgift von der eigenen Familie. Diese Schmuckstücke waren das persönliche Eigentum der Trägerin und damit auch soziale Absicherung. Sie wurden von Generation zu Generation weitergegeben. The German silversmith Paula Strauss (1894-1943) was a pivotal figure in shaping the "Golden Twenties" and the creative decades of the Bauhaus. Even early on, her jewelry objects and handmade items of silverware were reviewed with praise in the specialist press, and national and international exhibitions followed. In joining the design studio of the silverware factory Peter Bruckmann & Söhne, Heilbronn, in 1925, an unparalleled career began as Germany's first woman industrial designer. The silverware she designed-coffee and tea services-for handcrafted as well as machine production stands as an example of her own original style, which is defined by a purist idiom. Her professional success and her renown as a craftswoman and designer have been completely forgotten due to the nationalsocialist persecution of the Jews from 1933 on and her murder in Auschwitz. The time has now come to rediscover her work.

This book provides an interdisciplinary synthesis of the topic of culture in the context of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and a structured overview of a large body of HCI research on (and with) culture. The book presents a short and guided overview of the concept of culture. It offers some background on the origin and development of the term culture. It also outlines some of its key traits and ingredients and summarizes three main perspectives of culture across disciplines. The book argues that culture matters considerably in HCI and discusses a number of reasons for and against its relevance. Arguments against include a lack of a universal or common definition of the term culture and globalization. Arguments in favor touch upon important aspects of HCI, including a diversely growing user base, the need to provide designers with enough support to design across cultures, and the inseparable relationship between culture and technology. The issues explored in this book can be classified into three, non-mutually exclusive, categories: theoretical, practical, and controversial. The book outlines the main conceptual perspectives of culture within HCI, including Geert Hofstede's cultural dimensions theory, Edward T. Hall's cross-cultural theory of communication, and Richard Nisbett's cultural cognitive systems of thought as well as examining the ways in which culture has been operationalized in HCI research and the main functions of culture in this area. It closes with a discussion of some open issues intended to spark debate and future research. The book describes and explains the results of the collaborative project Generative Manufacturing of Optical, Thermal and Structural Components over the last three years. The overall goal is the development of a system concept based on generative manufacturing for integrated optical and optomechanical systems. Different developed generative manufacturing processes for glass and specially designed metal powders have been implemented in a single fabrication set up enabling multi-material manufacturing of optical components and systems. The main focus of the project is split into several topics: simulation, design, material engineering, process engineering, post-processing and component evaluation. The simulation of the glass printing process will be structured iteratively with a comparison of the experimental results in order to be able to finally make a prediction of the necessary parameter sizes for defined components. A metal material with similar thermal conductivity and thermal expansion properties to glass or laser-active crystals has been developed iteratively over the course of the project to enable direct printing onto these materials. In order to demonstrate the potential of generatively manufactured optomechanics for function-integrated systems, the optomechanical components required for a solid-state laser system are manufactured in a polymer-based 3D printing process and their properties are characterized. All these individual projects of the overall network are combined in the system concept.
