This book highlights the photogalvanic effects at low dimensions, surfaces, and interfaces, more specifically 2D materials, such as graphene and monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides. Although the phenomenology of the photogalvanic effects, which can be simply seen as photoresponse nonlinear-in-electric field, have been well-established, the microscopic understanding in each material system may vary. This book is a quick reference and a detailed roadmap starting from phenomenology and continuing with the ultimate low dimensional materials, in which the photogalvanic effects can offer a rich platform at the second-order response to an electric field. A general phenomenology of photogalvanic effect is provided in the first chapter, together with the photon drag effect which also generates a photocurrent like the photogalvanic effect, but with some distinct features, as well as somewhat puzzling similarities. Next two chapters explain these effects in graphene, starting with a necessary related background on graphene, then a particular focus on its specific phenomenology, microscopic theory, and experimental results. In a similar fashion, in chapters four and five, a necessary background for the photogalvanic effects in monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides, with symmetry analysis, microscopic theory, and experimental results is presented, along with the Berry curvature dependent photocurrent, which can also play an important role in 2D semiconductors. The second-order photogalvanic effects that have been covered so far in graphene and monolayer transition metal chalcogenides have already excited the 2D semiconductor optoelectronic research community by several means. It seems that the interests on the photogalvanic effects will continue to escalate in near future.

This book teaches readers how wireless networks work, why some of their properties impact wireless network performance at the application level, and what both network engineers and application developers can do to cope with these challenges. Internet users increasingly rely on wireless access links for diverse tasks such as web browsing, video conferencing, interactive games, and data sharing. Irrespective of how they access the Internet, they expect good performance and a high quality of experience. Unfortunately, wireless access networks are much more challenging to build than wired networks. In wired networks, signals used for communication are contained in a carefully engineered transmission medium. In contrast, wireless signals travel in our physical environment, where the presence of obstacles, interference, and mobility can affect communication. In addition, network performance can differ significantly across physical environments. As a result, the performance of wireless links is often lower and less predictable than that of wired links. The author structured the book according to the layers in the Internet protocol stack, similar to traditional network books. However, rather than presenting a general description of each layer, the focus is on wireless networks and how they differ from wired networks.

This book provides a detailed overview of detection algorithms for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communications systems focusing on their hardware realisation. The book begins by analysing the maximum likelihood detector, which provides the optimal bit error rate performance in an uncoded communications system. However, the maximum likelihood detector experiences a high complexity that scales exponentially with the number of antennas, which makes it impractical for real-time communications systems. The authors proceed to discuss lower-complexity detection algorithms such as zero-forcing, sphere decoding, and the K-best algorithm, with the aid of detailed algorithmic analysis and several MATLAB code examples. Furthermore, different design examples of MIMO detection algorithms and their hardware implementation results are presented and discussed. Finally, an ASIC design flow for implementing MIMO detection algorithms in hardware is provided, including the system simulation andmodelling steps and register transfer level modelling using hardware description languages.Provides an overview of MIMO detection algorithms and discusses their corresponding hardware implementations in detail;Highlights architectural considerations of MIMO detectors in achieving low power consumption and high throughput;Discusses design tradeoffs that will guide readers' efforts when implementing MIMO algorithms in hardware;Describes a broad range of implementations of different MIMO detectors, enabling readers to make informed design decisions based on their application requirements.

Perfectly-secure cryptography is a branch of information-theoretic cryptography. A perfectly-secure cryptosystem guarantees that the malicious third party cannot guess anything regarding the plain text or the key, even in the case of full access to the cipher text. Despite this advantage, there are only a few real-world implementations of perfect secrecy due to some well-known limitations. Any simple, straightforward modeling can pave the way for further advancements in the implementation, especially in environments with time and resource constraints such as IoT. This book takes one step towards this goal via presenting a hybrid combinatorial-Boolean model for perfectly-secure cryptography in IoT. In this book, we first present an introduction to information-theoretic cryptography as well as perfect secrecy and its real-world implementations. Then we take a systematic approach to highlight information-theoretic cryptography as a convergence point for existing trends in research on cryptography in IoT. Then we investigate combinatorial and Boolean cryptography and show how they are seen almost everywhere in the ecosystem and the life cycle of information-theoretic IoT cryptography. We finally model perfect secrecy in IoT using Boolean functions, and map the Boolean functions to simple, well-studied combinatorial designs like Latin squares. This book is organized in two parts. The first part studie s information-theoretic cryptography and the promise it holds for cryptography in IoT. The second part separately discusses combinatorial and Boolean cryptography, and then presents the hybrid combinatorial-Boolean model for perfect secrecy in IoT.

This book gives a complete overview of the classical electromagnetic theory, together with detailed insight in modern numerical methods for analysis of the problems in electromagnetics. Classical electromagnetic theory was developed in the 19th century, but due to the wide range of applications from electrical apparatus such as motors or heaters to telecommunications this subject is still very interesting. This book explains basic postulates and laws of the theory and its specialization to static and time-dependent problems. Special attention is given to utilization of computers in application of the modern numerical methods to solution of electromagnetic field problems.
