This book explores the relationship between pedestrians/cyclists' mode and route choice to/from metro/railway stations and the micro-level (street-scale) built environment in a second-tier city in China. More specifically, it investigates how the street-scale built environment influences pedestrians/cyclists' mode choice and route choice behavior and examines user preferences for the micro-level built environment around metro stations. The focus on a second-tier city is motivated primarily to expand the set of Chinese cities where the effects of the built environment on pedestrian/cyclist mode and route choice have been studied. Results demonstrate the effects of the street-scale built environment on pedestrian flows. The effects are higher for the main road, which is directly connected with the metro station. The findings of this book are expected to support the design of preferred walking/biking built environments around a metro station. This book appeals to urbanists, planners, engineers, policy makers, and those interested in a wide-ranging overview of slow/green transportation and built environment promotion. These methods not only help to understand the quantitative relationship between built environment design and travel behavior but also support the evaluation and assessment of built environment design in urban planning projects. It reduces the gap in our understanding of the quantitative relationship between the micro-level built environment and pedestrians/cyclists' transportation mode and route choice around the metro station. Both stated choice data and revealed choice data were used. An extended set of micro-level built environment attributes was developed. Besides the widely studied transportation-related factors, street-level built environment factors were studied using quantitative methods.

Was bringt Online-Bürgerbeteiligung und was macht sie bei Klimaschutz und Energiewende erfolgreich? Die vorliegende Forschungsarbeit zeigt auf, dass Bürgerbeteiligung zur besseren Handhabung von komplexen und umstrittenen Problemen (Wicked Problems) beitragen kann: Klimaschutz und Energiewende sind solche Probleme, die einen offenen, konstruktiven und aufeinander bezogenen Austausch erfordern, der die vielgestaltigen Wissenshintergründe, Betrachtungsweisen und Interessen zusammenbringt. Strittig ist, ob Online-Formate einen solchen deliberativen Austausch fördern oder vielmehr erschweren. Eine theoretisch-konzeptionelle Antwort liefern verwaltungswissenschaftliche Ansätze der New Public Governance. Sie heben die Vorteile von Partizipation hervor und stehen im Einklang mit IT-basierten Steuerungsformen. Ein multitheoretischer, wertebasierter Evaluationsansatz differenziert Erfolgskriterien und -faktoren, die in Fallbeispielen der Bürgerbeteiligung zu Klimaschutz und Energiewende angewendet und diskutiert werden. Deutlich wird, dass Klimaschutz und Energiewende eine enorme gesamtgesellschaftliche Gestaltungsaufgabe darstellen. Ein deliberativer Online-Austausch ist im Untersuchungsbereich (bislang) zwar kaum erkennbar. Jedoch zeigen sich facettenreiche Beiträge zur erfolgreichen Bürgerbeteiligung auch in Online-Formaten. Bei ihrer zunehmenden Bedeutung lohnt es sich umso mehr, ihren möglichen Erfolg kritisch zu begleiten.

This volume presents the proceedings of the Asia-Pacific Vibration Conference (APVC) 2019, "Vibration Engineering for a Sustainable Future," emphasizing work devoted to experimental methods and verification. The APVC is one of the larger conferences held biannually with the intention to foster scientific and technical research collaboration among Asia-Pacific countries. The APVC provides a forum for researchers, practitioners, and students from, but not limited to, areas around the Asia-Pacific countries in a collegial and stimulating environment to present, discuss and disseminate recent advances and new findings on all aspects of vibration and noise, their control and utilization. All aspects of vibration, acoustics, vibration and noise control, vibration utilization, fault diagnosis and monitoring are appropriate for the conference, with the focus this year on the vibration aspects in dynamics and noise & vibration. This 18th edition of the APVC was held in November 2019 in Sydney, Australia. The previous seventeen conferences have been held in Japan ('85, '93, '07), Korea ('87, '97, '13), China ('89, '01, '11, '17), Australia ('91, '03), Malaysia ('95, '05), Singapore ('99), New Zealand ('09) and Vietnam ('15).

This edited volume summarizes multidisciplinary work on wildlife conservation in the Tarangire Ecosystem of northern Tanzania. By drawing together human-centered, wildlife-centered, and interdisciplinary research, this book contributes to furthering our understanding of the often complex mechanisms underlying human-wildlife interactions in dynamic landscapes. By synthesizing the wealth of knowledge generated by anthropologists, ecologists, conservationists, entrepreneurs, geographers, sociologists, and zoologists over the last decades, this book also highlights practicable and locally adapted solutions for shaping human-wildlife interactions towards coexistence.Readers will discover the reciprocal and often unexpected direct and indirect dynamics between people and wildlife. While boundaries (e.g. between people and wildlife, between protected and un-protected areas, and between different groups of people) are a common theme throughout the different chapters, this book stresses the commonalities, links, and synergies between seemingly disparate disciplines, opinions, and conservation approaches. This open access book is the result of the 1st International Conference on Evaluating Challenges in the Implementation of EU Cohesion Policy (EvEUCoP 2022). It presents the recent findings, sparks discussion, and reveals new research paths addressing the use of novel methodologies and approaches to tackle the challenges and opportunities that are unveiled with the implementation of the EU cohesion policy. The authors cover a wide range of topics including the monitoring of data; the clearness of indicators in measuring the impact of interventions; novel evaluation methods, addressing the mid-term and terminal assessment; as well as case studies and applications on evaluations of the thematic objectives under the scrutiny of the cohesion policy, namely:¿ Research, technological development, and innovation; ¿ Information and communication technologies;¿ Shift toward alow-carbon economy.During the 2014-2020 programmatic period, member states were required to undertake assessments to evaluate the efficacy, efficiency, and impact of each operational program. Such evaluations are generally concerned with the compliance of projects and activities with programmatic priorities, as well as with funds' absorption capacity and refer to ex-ante and ex-post assessments. Hence, this book proposes the use of novel methodologies addressing the mid-term and terminal assessments that enable performing the efficiency appraisal of the operational programs and that can support decision-makers in the selection of projects that should be awarded for funding.

Professor Pan Jiahua is a leading figure in the field of political economy in climate change and has written extensively. The book is divided into four parts, covering theories, methods, governance, and policies. ¿ The theory part includes the general economics of climate change, the political economy of climate change, carbon emissions, and human development. ¿ The method part covers the economic analysis of greenhouse gas reduction and economics of low-carbon economic development. ¿ The governance is on the design and construction of international climate regimes and China's role and choice. ¿ Finally, the policy part consists of three chapters: policy choices for low-carbon transformation, energy-saving emission reduction, and low-carbon development and adaptation to climate change. The disciplines involved in climate change economics include welfare economics, development economics, international political economics, and property rights economics. In the context of multidisciplinary cross-cutting, the economics of climate change has evolved. The book proposes theories, methods and offers policy solutions and cases. It is of high academic and empirical value for developing countries to strive for fair rights and interests in international climate negotiations, obtain development space, and pursue a low-carbon and ecological economy. Professor Jiahua Pan and his team at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences have contributed greatly to the development of climate change economics in China. As the world accelerates towards a renewable energy transition, the demand for critical raw materials (CRMs) for energy generation, conversion, and storage technologies is seeing a drastic increase. Such materials are not only subject to limited supply and extreme price volatility but can also represent serious burdens to the environment, to human health, and also to socio-political systems.
