The Sonneteer
A Play on Passion, Power and Possession
"Dextrous, playful, poignant, sexy." - Susan Mansfield, The ScotsmanWhat drove the celebrated poet, playwright and actor William Shakespeare to write a whole suite of sonnets about beauty, life and the passage of time, and address most of them to a handsome young man? Obsession? Folly? Infatuation? Or was there more to their relationship than meets the eye today? In a dynamic look at an old question, two present day characters delve into some of the most glorious poetry ever composed, as they weave in and out of the past in search of a plausible truth about love. Everything is conjecture. Except the words..."A gem - fresh enjoyable writing and a new take on a body of work that stands the test of time." - Caitlin MacDonald, Everything Theatre"A must for any lover of Shakespeare's language." - Kate Saffin, Fringe Review
