Today, the past of the German language, its former complexity, complexity and diversity can only be researched and explained using original corpora of several epoch-specific text types. This volume provides a thorough examination of selected historical texts written in German. It integrates linguistic approaches with historical contexts to explore language change and the development of grammatical, lexical, textological and stylistic features over time. Special focus is placed on the dynamic interaction between language and society, as well as the impact of cultural transformations on language use. This interdisciplinary study sheds light on how German evolved through its texts and offers new perspectives on linguistic history.
