Now available in a compact edition, the world's best drummers are showcased in this book of magnificent photographs and fascinating interviews by renowned photographer Deirdre O'Callaghan. The drummer is usually the least well-known member of any band. Yet behind every lead singer is the person keeping the beat, and often acting as the music's driving force. In these incredible portraits, Deirdre O'Callaghan places drummers squarely in the spotlight. Photographing her subjects in their private rehearsal spaces and residences-from studios, bedrooms, and basements to garages and gardens-allows her to capture the true essence of their personalities and lifestyles. She has photographed almost 100 celebrated musicians for the book, including Tony Allen, Ginger Baker, Travis Barker, Cindy Blackman, Patrick Carney, Terri Lyne Carrington, Chris Dave, Jack DeJohnette, Bryan Devendorf, Sly Dunbar, Steve Gadd, James Gadson, Dave Grohl, Mark Guiliana, Steve Jordan, Jim Keltner, Airto Moreira, Larry Mullen Jr., Neil Peart, Questlove, Jim Sclavunos, Ringo Starr, Lars Ulrich, Joey Waronker, and Jack White. Each image is accompanied by excerpts from O'Callaghan's personal conversations with the drummers. The result is a fascinating look at a truly diverse world made up of people from every walk of life, united by a single, emphatic passion.

In this intimate and open account - nothing like any rock-and-roll memoir you've ever read - Alex Van Halen shares his personal story of family, friendship, music and brotherly love in a remarkable tribute to his beloved brother and band mate.'A remarkable memoir' Classic Rock'A highly emotional read' GuardianIn his rough yet sweet voice, Alex recounts the brothers' childhood, first in the Netherlands and then in working class Pasadena, California, with an itinerant musician father and a very proper Indonesian-born mother - the kind of mum who admonished her boys to "always wear a suit" no matter how famous they became - a woman who was both proud and practical, nonchalant about taking a doggie bag from a star-studded dinner. He also shares tales of musical politics, infighting, and plenty of bad-boy behaviour. But mostly his is a story of brotherhood, music, and enduring love."I was with him from day one," Alex writes. "We shared the experience of coming to America and figuring out how to fit in. We shared a record player, an 800 square foot house, a mom and dad, and a work ethic. Later, we shared the back of a tour bus, alcoholism, the experience of becoming famous, of becoming fathers and uncles, and of spending more hours in the studio than I've spent doing anything else in this life. We shared a depth of understanding that most people can only hope to achieve in a lifetime."There has never been an accurate account of them or the band, and Alex wants to set the record straight on Edward's life and death.

Schwierigkeitsgrad: 4-5

Daru Jones has to have the heaviest foot on a kick drum that I've been able to witness live - in my life! His snares are so snappy and slappy that it's like you're getting slapped in the face fourteen times every time he hits it. This particular album shows the history of him rocking breaks for incredible artists. And me, being known for what I do, (meaning the breaks) there's nothing more satisfying to hear than this incredible, gifted musician display and tell you the story behind how he was inspired to create these pieces of what I call "mastepieces" as far as live drumming when it comes to Hip-Hop. So, as I always say when something means a lot to me or hits me hard - "Daru Jones PLAY THE BREAKS Live" is most definitely UBB APPROVED. Peace.- BreakBeat LouCo-creator of the Ultimate Breaks & Beats Compilation

The final book in The A.R.C series continues our growth by exploring additional concepts and breaking down music terms for better understanding. Whether you're a returning or new reader, starting with the earlier books is advised unless you have a basic grasp of rhythms and terminology. Detailed technique discussions are not the focus here, as the primary goal is to define terms and improve music reading skills. A separate book dedicated to techniques is being developed. The book includes vocabulary terms and retention-testing worksheets, emphasizing the advancement of rhythmic communication. As the author, I expresses deep gratitude and excitement as we continue to embark on this rhythmic journey of yours, regardless of which book they're on.sAaron "AC" CapersDynamic Rhythm Entertainment Performer & EducatorMavs Drumline Member Let me help you find your voice as a percussionist, while we explore:"Life Studies Through the Art of Percussion".

The purpose of this book is to document those Afro-Puerto Rican rhythms that were long relegated to a second or third level in the cultural environment of Puerto Rico. Apart from documenting the rhythms (about 19), we provide a historical background of the practice, including information on practitioners of this genre and the places where they were practiced. In addition, we include a section of how some of the rhythms of Bomba and Plena can be used in other genres such as jazz, funk, rock and other Afro-descendant genres with the drum set. This book is accompanied by a series of educational materials that reinforce its content. We added to this work videos, audios and writings that indicate how to play the different rhythms we discuss here and historical aspects of both Bomba and Plena, and the historical circumstances that shaped them.-------El propósito de este libro es documentar aquellos ritmos afropuertorriqueños que por mucho tiempo estuvieron relegados a un segundo o tercer nivel en el ambiente cultural de Puerto Rico.
