Im vorliegenden Band werden die Belastung des Grund- und Trinkwassers sowie die Instrumente zur Erkundung und Sanierung aufgezeigt. Dabei werden die "Grenzwertlisten" diskutiert und die Problematik ihrer Übertragbarkeit aufgezeigt. Qualitätsziele werden dargestellt und mit der Realität konfrontiert. Ausführlich werden die Rechtsgrundlagen zur Bewältigung von Grundwasserschäden dargestellt. Anforderungen an Probenahmegeräte, Grundwassermodelle und geophysikalische Methoden werden definiert, neue Techniken und Methoden vorgestellt.

Afrikanische Yamsbohnen gehören zu den wenig genutzten/nicht konventionellen Hülsenfrüchten Afrikas. Sie werden aufgrund ihrer Unbekanntheit bei politischen Entscheidungsträgern und ihres geringen Nährwerts nur wenig genutzt. Die beiden wichtigsten Produkte der afrikanischen Yamsbohne sind die Samen und die Knollen. Die Knollen enthalten 19 % Rohprotein. Die Samen enthalten zwischen 21 und 29 % Rohprotein. Sie sind lokal verfügbar und im Vergleich zu Sojabohnen günstiger in der Beschaffung. Sie gehören zu den pflanzlichen Proteinen. Die Samen können verarbeitet, mit Enzymen angereichert und in das Masthähnchenfutter als Ersatz für Sojamehl eingemischt werden. Die mit diesem Futter gefütterten Masthähnchen zeigten aufgrund der verbesserten Leistungs- und Schlachtkörpermerkmale sowie der Blutwerte eine hervorragende Leistung. Verbraucher, die Produkte von Masthühnern verzehren, die mit dieser Diät gefüttert wurden, haben aufgrund des geringen/fehlenden Fett- und Cholesteringehalts in den Produkten keine gesundheitlichen Probleme. Die Verwendung von verarbeitetem afrikanischem Yamswurzelmehl, das mit Enzymen ergänzt ist, in der Masthühnerfütterung ist besser und sicherer als Fischmehl, das Gesundheitsrisiken für den Menschen birgt.
