This book provides an opportunity for researchers, scientists, government officials, strategist and operators and maintainers of large, complex and advanced systems and infrastructure to update their knowledge with the state of best practice in the challenging domains while networking with the leading representatives, researchers and solution providers. The advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI), coupled with the prolificacy of the Internet of Things (IoT) devices are creating smart societies that are interconnected. Space exploration and satellite, drone and UAV technology have travelled a long way in recent years and some may debate that we are in the midst of a revolution; in terms of development and the increasing number of these devices being launched. But with this revolutionary progress, it presents itself with new challenges in terms of governance. The ethical implications of connecting the physical and digital worlds, and presenting the reality of a truly interconnected society, presents the realization of the concept of smart societies in reality.Drawing on 14 years of successful events on Information security, digital forensics and cybercrime, the 15th ICGS3-23 conference aims to provide attendees with an information-packed agenda with representatives from across the industry and the globe. The challenges of complexity, rapid pace of change and risk/opportunity issues associated with modern products, systems, special events and infrastructures. In an era of unprecedented volatile, political and economic environment across the world, computer based systems face ever more increasing challenges, disputes and responsibilities and while the Internet has created a global platform for the exchange of ideas, goods and services, however, it has also created boundless opportunities for cyber-crime.This book presents new materials and contributes to knowledge through the technological advances that are being made across artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, blockchain and quantum computing. These technologies driven by a digital revolution are expected to be disruptive and provide major digital transformation in the way societies operate today. As a result, these advances provide social and economic benefits, but, also, provide new challenges that security industry need to raise their game to combat them.

This is an open access book. What is the history and current state of play of EU law and policy covering irregularised human mobility? What has been the role and contributions of the 2019-2024 European Commission as regards EU migration policy? This book investigates how migration policies have been problematised at the EU institutional level, in particular by the European Commission. It critically assesses the assumptions lying behind the Commission's political priorities, agendas and policy outputs. Through the concept of irregularity assemblages, the book examines how EU policy professionals and bureaucracies in the relevant Commission services problematise their respective mandates/portfolios; how they interact with each other and even compete; and how they frame certain forms of human mobility as being an 'irregular migration problem' or not. After retracing key historical developments in the framing of irregularised human mobilities at the EU level, the book identifies six policy approaches in the work and structures of the 2019-2024 European Commission. It finds that a home affairs and criminalisation approach that prioritises a law enforcement understanding of cross-border and intra-EU mobility, and pursuing a Ministry of Interior-like agenda, has prevailed. This approach stands at odds with human dignity and other legitimate public policy approaches, such as those giving priority to employment and social inclusion, non-discrimination, and fundamental rights, where the administrative migration status of the individual is not the entry point. The overriding priority driving EU migration policy has been the expulsion, policing and criminalisation of people framed or categorised as 'irregular migrants'. The analysis shows how Commission has failed to effectively perform its role as guardian of the Treaties and unequivocally enforce and comply with EU Treaty constitutive values, EU law and Better Regulation commitments in migration policies.

This book offers a new vision on urban gun violence that focuses on public space-centered concepts, events, and research. It builds on our existing knowledge base by viewing a "slice" of this problem through celebratory and solemn occasions and how violence at these events and spaces reflects on the state of urban gun violence. Understanding this context serves to inform us on how best to address this social phenomenon. Gun violence in the United States is a salient national problem with virtually no day that goes by without it occurring, particularly in urban public spaces, making it a significant social event. This book uniquely presents an urban- and event-focused context for gun violence. It also draws attention to marginalized urban communities, merging urban public spaces, events, intersectionality, social justice, and gun violence, introducing a unique window to better comprehend this violence as a national issue and bringing profound consequences when it transpires in a public event. To examine the context of public spaces and events in gun violence, the author organized the book's ten chapters in three sections: Part I: Conceptual Foundation sets the foundation for a multifaceted perspective. Part II: Celebratory and Solemn Events expands the gun violence arena. Part III: Implications for Research, Education, and Practice.Urban Public Spaces, Events, and Gun Violence: Block Parties, Funerals, Mother's Day, and Other Community Events expands the context of gun violence beyond the street scene to include public settings and events, and helps in achieving a comprehensive understanding of this public health problem and how best to solve it. The book is essential reading for practitioners, academics, and researchers in public health, social work, criminal justice, and community practice.
