Introduces quantum inspired techniques for image analysis for pure and true gray scale/color images in a single/multi-objective environment This book will entice readers to design efficient meta-heuristics for image analysis in the quantum domain. It introduces them to the essence of quantum computing paradigm, its features, and properties, and elaborates on the fundamentals of different meta-heuristics and their application to image analysis. As a result, it will pave the way for designing and developing quantum computing inspired meta-heuristics to be applied to image analysis. Quantum Inspired Meta-heuristics for Image Analysis begins with a brief summary on image segmentation, quantum computing, and optimization. It also highlights a few relevant applications of the quantum based computing algorithms, meta-heuristics approach, and several thresholding algorithms in vogue. Next, it discusses a review of image analysis before moving on to an overview of six popular meta-heuristics and their algorithms and pseudo-codes. Subsequent chapters look at quantum inspired meta-heuristics for bi-level and gray scale multi-level image thresholding; quantum behaved meta-heuristics for true color multi-level image thresholding; and quantum inspired multi-objective algorithms for gray scale multi-level image thresholding. Each chapter concludes with a summary and sample questions. - Provides in-depth analysis of quantum mechanical principles - Offers comprehensive review of image analysis - Analyzes different state-of-the-art image thresholding approaches - Detailed current, popular standard meta-heuristics in use today - Guides readers step by step in the build-up of quantum inspired meta-heuristics - Includes a plethora of real life case studies and applications - Features statistical test analysis of the performances of the quantum inspired meta-heuristics vis-à-vis their conventional counterparts Quantum Inspired Meta-heuristics for Image Analysis is an excellent source of information for anyone working with or learning quantum inspired meta-heuristics for image analysis.

The industry is nowadays confronted with large-scale monolithic and inflexible object-oriented software. Because of their high business value, these legacy systems must be reengineered. One of the important issues in reengineering is the detection and location of design flaws, which prevent an efficient maintenance and further development of the system. This work presents a novel metrics-based approach for detecting such design problems. The approach is based on the Detection Strategy concept, which is a higher-level mechanism for interpreting measurement results, defined by the author. After defining and explaining the mechanism itself, the work introduces an important suite of detection strategies for the identification of different well-known design flaws found in the literature, but also for problems rarely mentioned. The last part of the work introduces a new type of quality model, called Factor-Strategy.

Both object orientation and parallelism are modern programming paradigms which have gained much popularity in the last 10-15 years. Object orientation raises hopes for increased productivity of software generation and maintenance methods. Parallelism can serve to structure a problem but also promises faster program execution. The two areas of computing science in which these paradigms play the most prominent role are programming languages and databases. In programming languages, one can take an academic approach with a primary focus on the generality of the semantics of the language constructs which support the respective paradigm. In databases, one is willing to restrict the power of the constructs in the interest of increased efficiency. Inter- and intra-object parallelism have received an increasing amount of attention in the last few years by researchers in the area of object- oriented programming. At first glance, an object is very similar to a process which offers services to other processes and demands services from them. It has, however, transpired that object-oriented concepts cause problems when combined with parallelism. In programming languages, the introduction of parallelism and the synchronization constraints it brings with it can get in the way of code reusability. In databases, the combination of object orientation and parallelism requires, for example, a generalization of the transaction model, new approaches to the specification of information systems, an implementation model of object communication, and the design of an overall system architecture. There has been insufficient communication between researchers in programming languages and in databases on these issues. Object Orientation with Parallelism and Persistence grew out of a Dagstuhl Seminar of the same title in April 1995 whose goal it was to put the new research area `object orientation with parallelism' on an interdisciplinary basis. Object Orientation with Parallelism and Persistence will be of interest to researchers and professionals working in software engineering, programming languages, and database systems.

Pattern recognition and computer vision and their applications have experienced enormous progress in research and development over the last two decades. This comprehensive handbook, with chapters by leading experts in their fields, documents both the basics and new and advanced results. The book gives the most total treatment of basic methods in pattern recognition including statistical, neurocomputing, syntactic/structural/grammatical approaches, feature selection and cluster analysis; and an extensive presentation of basic methods in computer vision including texture analysis and models, color, geometrical tools, image sequence analysis, etc. Major and unique applications are also covered, such as food handling using computer vision, non-destructive evaluation of materials, applications in economics and business, medical image recognition and understanding, etc. Broader system aspects are also examined, including optical pattern recognition and architectures for computer vision.Researchers, students and users of pattern recognition and computer vision will find the book an essential reference tool. The volume is also an invaluable collection of basic techniques and principles, which would otherwise be hard to assemble, in one convenient volume.
