On 17 November 2023, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, was fired on a video call. The firing quickly made headlines around the world. A week later, Altman was back running the company he had co-founded-and most of the directors who voted to fire him were themselves removed from the board. It was a demonstration of the then 38-year-old Altman's power to bend reality to his will, and of how vicious and personal the rush to create this world-changing technology is. In The Optimist, acclaimed reporter Keach Hagey tells the Altman story so far: from his childhood in St. Louis to his first startup experience, his time leading Y Combinator, his recruitment of a superior team at OpenAI, the machinations that led to his temporary removal and his struggle to keep his company at the cutting-edge while fending off rivals including Elon Musk. Based on more than two hundred interviews, The Optimist is an essential portrait of an individual whose vision of the future is already shaping our lives.

In 1872, Eadward Muybridge - a British photographer, who had landed in California during the Gold Rush - captured images of high-speed movement. These photographs would go on to lay the foundations for motion pictures, changing the west coast of America, and the world, forever. River of Shadows is both a bold and original biography of a true pioneer - his trailblazing work, and his complicated life - and a portrait of America on the threshold of modernity. Drawing lines from Muybridge's invention to Hollywood and Silicon Valley, Rebecca Solnit explores how this remarkable breakthrough has shaped the world today.

Februar 1935 - seinem 76. Geburtstag.

As it is customary these days, I was purchasing something on Amazon. I selected the item and attempted to place an order. And the result was a joke. A message flashed on the computer screen that they were unable to supply the item at this address. It further suggested either changing the item or changing the address. How can I change the address during this lockdown period due to a pandemic? <BR>After the cognitive process, I realized that this was not my genuine address. Pusesavali, being my birthplace, was my initial address. It was Karad or Sangli when I was studying. While working, the address used to be Walchandnagar; and until four months ago, it was Lake Town Society. However, these are all temporary addresses! We have forgotten to search our eternal address, that is our real home!<BR>As I lay in bed at night, the thought cycle began in my mind. The seventy-three years that had passed, started circulating like a movie in front of my eyes. And then it dawned on me that my life was not 'all that ordinary'. I have, surely, made great contributions; I have also come across some great personalities and lived a full life. What if I jotted down everything? A lot of time is available to me, anyway. Isn't it better than to keep on thinking of Corona and getting depressed? That's the reason I ventured into writing and the outcome is this book!

The incredible true story of the origin of human flight, by the Pulitzer Prize-winning author David McCullough.<BR><BR> On a winter day in 1903, in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, two unknown brothers from Ohio changed history. But it would take the world some time to believe what had happened: the age of flight had begun, with the first heavier-than-air, powered machine carrying a pilot.<BR><BR>Who were these men and how was it that they achieved what they did?<BR><BR> David McCullough, two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize, tells the surprising, profoundly human story of Wilbur and Orville Wright. Far more than a couple of unschooled Dayton bicycle mechanics who happened to hit on success, they were men of exceptional courage and determination, and of far-ranging intellectual interests and ceaseless curiosity, much of which they attributed to their upbringing.<BR><BR>In this thrilling book, McCullough draws on the immense riches of the Wright Papers, including private diaries, notebooks, scrapbooks and more than a thousand letters from private family correspondence to tell the human side of the Wright Brothers' story, including the little-known contributions of their sister, Katharine, without whom things might well have gone differently for them.
