- The Curse of Oak Island is high-quality narrative non-fiction from a top-shelf journalist, extrapolated from Randall Sullivan's successful 2004 Rolling Stone article of the same title.- The Oak Island mystery is the subject of the History Channel's reality TV series The Curse of Oak Island, which debuted in January 2014 and has become of the most successful original shows on cable overall. The show follows brothers Marty and Rick Lagina as they attempt to uncover the island's secrets. Randall Sullivan joined the show for its fourth season, which aired November 2016-February 2017.- The book's subject is a fascinating real-life mystery, touching engineering, early Native American history, and some of the alternative historical theories which makes for a very compelling read.- Sullivan's last book, Untouchable, was excerpted in Vanity Fair and named on of Amazon's 100 Best Books of the Year. Sullivan appeared on Katie, Good Morning America, and Nightline to promote the book, and we also received strong print attention, with coverage in People, the Los Angeles Times, and the New Yorker, among others.- Open Road Pictures has adapted Sullivan's LAbryinth for film, with Brad Furman directing and Johnny Depp starring. Albert Wilkening war bei der DEFA, der staatlichen Filmproduktion der DDR, von 1946 bis 1976 in leitenden Funktionen, zeitweilig als Studiodirektor, tätig. Von 1976 bis 1990 war er erster Vorsitzender des Internationalen Film- und Fernsehrates der DDR und erster Chronist der DEFA. Die Texte zeichnen Albert Wilkenings Werdegang in den 1920er- und 1930er-Jahren bis zur Anstellung bei der DEFA nach und gestatten gleichzeitig einen Einblick in die Produktionsmechanismen der DEFA. Darüber hinaus werden zahlreiche unbekanntere Filme und Personen des ostdeutschen Films vorgestellt. Vier Zeitzeugengespräche mit Gert Golde, Roland Gräf, Hans Hattop und Rainer Simon runden das Porträt einer zentralen Persönlichkeit des DDR-Films ab.

Imagine a society that exists solely in cinema - this book explores exactly that. Using a half-century of films from the archival collection of the National Film Board, NFB Kids: Portrayals of Children by the National Film Board of Canada, 1939-1989 overcomes a long-standing impasse about what films may be credibly said to document. Here they document not ""reality,"" but social images preserved over time - the ""NFB Society"" - an evolving, cinematic representation of Canadian families, schools and communities. During the postwar era, this society-in-cinema underwent a profound change in its child rearing and schooling philosophies, embracing ""modern"" notions based upon principles espoused by the American mental hygiene movement. Soon after the introduction of these psychological principles into NFB homes in 1946 and schools in 1956, there was a subtle transformation in adult-child relations, which progressively, over time, narrowed the gulf of power between generations and diminished the socializing roles of the NFB parents and teachers. NFB Kids is a pioneering study within a new field of academic research - ""cinema ethnography."" It adds to the growing body of knowledge about the function, and the considerable impact of, psychiatry and psychology in the post-war social reconstruction of Canadian society and social history.
