This book examines the issue of solid waste generation and management as a worldwide phenomenon, focusing on strategies that facilitate the disposal and utilization of waste while ensuring environmental integrity and meeting the needs of future generations. The process of urbanization, particularly in densely populated cities, has resulted in a notable increase in the production of solid waste. Unfortunately, the current management system employed by the government, as well as the available resources and technical capabilities, is insufficient in effectively addressing this issue. As a result, the accumulation of solid waste in the environment continues to rise, causing adverse impacts on both the natural surroundings and human well-being. The contamination of the air, soil, and water directly stems from this mounting waste. To confront this global challenge, determined efforts are being made to manage and diminish the volume of solid waste, with the ultimate goal of safeguarding the environment and preserving the welfare of future generations. Furthermore, the book delves into various sustainable development approaches, such as Gasification and Ash Melting, Anaerobic Digestion, and Composition. Additionally, it highlights the recent advancements in these techniques by scientists, which contribute to promoting sustainable solid waste management.

Researchers in applied linguistics have found medical and health contexts to be fertile grounds for study, from macro-levels of conceptual analyses to micro-levels of the "turn-by-turn." The rich array of health contexts include medical research itself, clinical encounters, medical education and training, caregivers and patients in everyday life - from the formal and ritualized to the ad hoc and ephemeral. This volume foregrounds the crucial role of applied linguists addressing real world problems, while simultaneously highlighting the varied ways that health can be understood as a rich site of language inquiry in its own right. Chapters cover a range of health topics including medical training, medical interaction, disability in education, health policy analysis and recommendations, multidisciplinary research teams, and medical ethics. While reporting and reflecting on their specific topics in clinical and health contexts, contributors also articulate their own hybrid identities as professional collaborators in health research, education, and policy.

This book offers a new vision on urban gun violence that focuses on public space-centered concepts, events, and research. It builds on our existing knowledge base by viewing a "slice" of this problem through celebratory and solemn occasions and how violence at these events and spaces reflects on the state of urban gun violence. Understanding this context serves to inform us on how best to address this social phenomenon. Gun violence in the United States is a salient national problem with virtually no day that goes by without it occurring, particularly in urban public spaces, making it a significant social event. This book uniquely presents an urban- and event-focused context for gun violence. It also draws attention to marginalized urban communities, merging urban public spaces, events, intersectionality, social justice, and gun violence, introducing a unique window to better comprehend this violence as a national issue and bringing profound consequences when it transpires in a public event. To examine the context of public spaces and events in gun violence, the author organized the book's ten chapters in three sections: Part I: Conceptual Foundation sets the foundation for a multifaceted perspective. Part II: Celebratory and Solemn Events expands the gun violence arena. Part III: Implications for Research, Education, and Practice.Urban Public Spaces, Events, and Gun Violence: Block Parties, Funerals, Mother's Day, and Other Community Events expands the context of gun violence beyond the street scene to include public settings and events, and helps in achieving a comprehensive understanding of this public health problem and how best to solve it. The book is essential reading for practitioners, academics, and researchers in public health, social work, criminal justice, and community practice.

Living in urban areas has long been recognized as a risk factor for mental illness despite the advantages of cities over villages. The impact of urbanization on mental health and stress is significant and is likely to increase over the next few years. Thus, considering the stress difference in the world cities and its increase, urban planners, urban managers, and urban designers should urgently consider it an essential principle in their plans and designs to reduce its side effects. This book is a comprehensive guide for urban planners who seek to reduce urban stress in the urban environment but lack proper training and texts. Urban designers will have a unified vision to reduce urban stress caused by the appearance of the city environment. It will be useful for city managers and policymakers since this book identifies urban policies which reduce urban stress and stressful urban factors. Also, it will help urban psychologists, sociologists, architects, and social science researchers to better understand the relationship between their field and stress relief urban planning.

It offers a crucial reference for academic researchers in nanotechnology, medicine, material science, toxicology, agriculture, environmental science, and biomedical science.

This book offers an understanding of subjective well-being (SWB) in the Indian context across ages and strata. It discusses the conceptualization and measurement of both subjective well-being (SWB) and subjective ill-being (SIB) through a multi-phased research study. The structure of SWB and development, standardization, and indexing of an SWB Measure provide insights on how the SWB Measure can enable nations to find out the national level of SWB/SIB for its citizens. The index may be useful in identifying the level of people's well-being or ill-being. It explores the possibility of implications and interventions in optimizing SWB both at the individual and collective levels. It is a consolidated account of the work done in SWB research, particularly with a cultural focus from the Indian context. This book has a wide application for students, researchers, psychometricians, practitioners, policymakers, and all individuals interested in concepts like SWB and Happiness.

Five years after Ronald Ross discovered the link between malaria and mosquitos, American entomologist Leland Howard wrote of the "mosquito evil" that occurs when "everybody's business is nobody's business." Howard's insight was largely ignored, but it captures what social scientists now refer to as the problem of collective action. When this problem persists in the context of malaria, individuals under-provide prevention and suffer from a higher prevalence of malaria. Imagine a group of people trying to drain a pond where mosquitoes breed. Everyone in the group faces an incentive to free ride, which can hinder their drainage efforts. Thus, when people fail to resolve issues related to collective action, they submit to the "mosquito evil" and, potentially, to malaria. This book explores Howard's logic, the economics of collective action, and the history, epidemiology, and public health of malaria to analyze the conditions under which peopleprivately resolve collective action problems associated with mosquito abatement and malaria prevention. Generally, people are more likely to resolve these problems when the benefits of abatement and prevention outweigh the costs. This logic is developed into a framework and applied to historical and modern-day issues related to malaria, including the lack or abundance of private prevention in the United States and in developing areas; malaria's resurgence in countries like China, Venezuela, and Bangladesh; and the difficulties of large-scale insecticide-treated bed net campaigns. Given this framework, we should develop a greater appreciation for entrepreneurial responses, civil society, market processes, and private forms of collective action.
