This book presents the proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Frontier Computing, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on July 3¿6, 2018, and provides comprehensive coverage of the latest advances and trends in information technology, science and engineering. It addresses a number of broad themes, including communication networks, business intelligence and knowledge management, web intelligence, and related fields that inspire the development of information technology. The contributions cover a wide range of topics: database and data mining, networking and communications, web and internet of things, embedded systems, soft computing, social network analysis, security and privacy, optical communication, and ubiquitous/pervasive computing. Many of the papers outline promising future research directions. The book is a valuable resource for students, researchers and professionals, and also offers a useful reference guide for newcomers to the field.

This SpringerBrief presents a typical life-cycle of mobile data mining applications, including:data capturing and processing which determines what data to collect, how to collect these data, and how to reduce the noise in the data based on smartphone sensors feature engineering which extracts and selects features to serve as the input of algorithms based on the collected and processed data model and algorithm designIn particular, this brief concentrates on the model and algorithm design aspect, and explains three challenging requirements of mobile data mining applications: energy-saving, personalization, and real-time Energy saving is a fundamental requirement of mobile applications, due to the limited battery capacity of smartphones. The authors explore the existing practices in the methodology level (e.g. by designing hierarchical models) for saving energy. Another fundamental requirement of mobile applications is personalization. Most of the existing methods tend to train generic models for all users, but the authors provide existing personalized treatments for mobile applications, as the behaviors may differ greatly from one user to another in many mobile applications. The third requirement is real-time. That is, the mobile application should return responses in a real-time manner, meanwhile balancing effectiveness and efficiency. This SpringerBrief targets data mining and machine learning researchers and practitioners working in these related fields. Advanced level students studying computer science and electrical engineering will also find this brief useful as a study guide.

A no-nonsense guide to all the essentials you’ll need to become a TypeScript wizard and build a TypeScript application from scratch.<BR><BR>“An invaluable resource to countless developers.”<BR>—Ryan Cavanaugh, Development Lead Microsoft TypeScript Team <BR><BR>TypeScript makes JavaScript safer and your editor smarter. Matt Pocock’s Total TypeScript courses have trained thousands of developers by putting the editor first: You learn types by watching what TypeScript tells you, not by memorizing rules. This book brings that method to print.<BR><BR>You’ll start by setting up a proper TypeScript environment, then immediately begin writing and annotating code. Each chapter builds on the last—primitive types to unions, objects to classes, basic generics to type transformations—with exercises woven throughout as checkpoints, not afterthoughts.<BR><BR>Later chapters tackle what takes longer to learn: deriving types from other types, writing type predicates and assertion functions, configuring the compiler for real projects, and building type architectures that don’t collapse under their own weight.<BR><BR>You’ll learn to:<BR>- Read TypeScript’s error messages and use your editor as a teaching tool- Write precise types for objects, functions, and classes- Use unions, narrowing, and generics to make types flexible without losing safety- Derive and transform types so you don’t repeat yourself- Configure tsconfig.json for React, Node, or library development<BR>This is a workshop in print. The one Matt Pocock has been refining for years.

Every distributed system strives for reliability, performance, and quality, but building such a system is hard. Establishing a set of design patterns enables software developers and system architects to use a common language to describe their systems and learn from the patterns and practices developed by others. The popularity of containers and Kubernetes paves the way for core distributed system patterns and reusable containerized components. This practical guide presents a collection of repeatable, generic patterns to help guide the systems you build using common patterns and practices drawn from some of the highest performing distributed systems in use today. These common patterns make the systems you build far more approachable and efficient, even if you've never built a distributed system before. Author Brendan Burns demonstrates how you can adapt existing software design patterns for designing and building reliable distributed applications. Systems engineers and application developers will learn how these long-established patterns provide a common language and framework for dramatically increasing the quality of your system. This fully updated second edition includes new chapters on AI inference, AI training, and building robust systems for the real world. - Understand how patterns and reusable components enable the rapid development of reliable distributed systems - Use the sidecar, adapter, and ambassador patterns to split your application into a group of containers on a single machine - Explore loosely coupled multinode distributed patterns for replication, scaling, and communication between components - Learn distributed system patterns for large-scale batch data processing covering work queues, event-based processing, and coordinated workflows

Generative AI has revolutionized how organizations tackle problems, accelerating the journey from concept to prototype to solution. As the models become increasingly capable, we have witnessed a new design pattern emerge: AI agents. By combining tools, knowledge, memory, and learning with advanced foundation models, we can now sequence multiple model inferences together to solve ambiguous and difficult problems. From coding agents to research agents to analyst agents and more, we've already seen agents accelerate teams and organizations. While these agents enhance efficiency, they often require extensive planning, drafting, and revising to complete complex tasks, and deploying them remains a challenge for many organizations, especially as technology and research rapidly develops. This book is your indispensable guide through this intricate and fast-moving landscape. Author Michael Albada provides a practical and research-based approach to designing and implementing single- and multiagent systems. It simplifies the complexities and equips you with the tools to move from concept to solution efficiently. - Understand the distinct features of foundation model-enabled AI agents - Discover the core components and design principles of AI agents - Explore design trade-offs and implement effective multiagent systems - Design and deploy tailored AI solutions, enhancing efficiency and innovation in your field

Go has rapidly become the preferred language for building web services. Plenty of tutorials are available to teach Go's syntax to developers with experience in other programming languages, but tutorials aren't enough. They don't teach Go's idioms, so developers end up recreating patterns that don't make sense in a Go context. This practical guide provides the essential background you need to write clear and idiomatic Go. No matter your level of experience, you'll learn how to think like a Go developer. Author Jon Bodner introduces the design patterns experienced Go developers have adopted and explores the rationale for using them. This updated edition also shows you how Go's generics support fits into the language. This book helps you: - Write idiomatic code in Go and design a Go project - Understand the reasons behind Go's design decisions - Set up a Go development environment for a solo developer or team - Learn how and when to use reflection, unsafe, and cgo - Discover how Go's features allow the language to run efficiently - Know which Go features you should use sparingly or not at all - Use Go's tools to improve performance, optimize memory usage, and reduce garbage collection - Learn how to use Go's advanced development tools
