Produktinformationen "The Long Delirious Burning Blue"

THE FIRST NOVEL BY THE AUTHOR
OF WORD-OF-MOUTH BESTSELLER IF
WOMEN ROSE ROOTED 'You and me against the
world, you used to sing. In the days before it became you and me against
each other.'Cat Munro - who has never taken
a day off in her working life - quits her corporate job and starts flying
lessons in a small plane over the Arizona desert, confronting her fear not only
of death, but of life. Her mother, Laura, moves back to the Scottish village
where she spent the first years of her marriage to Cat's abusive father. Though
they are apart, the past connects mother and daughter, haunts them, binds them.
From the excoriating heat of
the Arizona desert to the misty flow of a Highland sea-loch, Sharon Blackie's
soaring first novel presents us with the transformative power of landscape, and
of storytelling, in women's lives. Above all, The Long
Delirious Burning Blue is a story of courage, endurance and redemption.

'It is
that rarity, a first novel that smacks of not merely confidence, but authority
... The ending is powerful,
filmic, and achieving the kind of symmetry that novels often aspire to, but
rarely reach.' The Scotsman

Ripening
Passed down through generations of women long before they were captured and prettified in books and film, fairy tales present us with characters and images that inspire. The heroines capture our hearts, and their journeys help us to imagine how change might be possible in our lives.

But values and qualities of character that define a fairy-tale heroine are just as important today. There's always been war and danger, and there's always been love and community too. To be a heroine you need generosity, reciprocity, discipline, discernment, loyalty, kinship, hospitality, smarts and the determination to show up and own you own story... You need a sense of kinship with the natural world around you, and the other-than-humans who inhabit it. And a healthy dose of feistiness, and a recognition that being nice shouldn't necessarily be women's only life goal.

Fairy tales show us how to take hold of our own dysfunctional personal stories and transform them into stories that might begin with trauma, but end with empowerment. They capture our imagination, offer us images of startling resonance and beauty, all while teaching us how to live well.

If Women Rose Rooted
In this life-changing book that blends myth, memoir and modern day mentors, renowned psychologist Dr Sharon Blackie journeys from the wasteland of modern society to a place of nourishment and connection.
'Mind-blowing. An anthem for all we could be ... I sincerely hope every woman who can read has the time and space to read it.' Manda Scott, author of Boudica and A Treachery of Spies
'If women remember that once upon a time we sang with the tongues of seals and flew with the wings of swans, that we forged our own paths through the dark forest while creating a community of its many inhabitants, then we will rise up rooted, like trees.
'And if we rise up rooted, like trees . . . well then, women might indeed save not only ourselves, but the world.'
Like Women who Run with the Wolves, this is powerful rallying cry to women to embrace a different kind of femininity. Described as both transformative and essential, Sharon Blackie leads the reader on a quest to find their place in the world, drawing inspiration from the wise and powerful females in native mythology, and guidance from contemporary women who have re-rooted themselves in land and community and taken responsibility for shaping the future.
Beautifully written, honest and moving, If Women Rose Rooted is a passionate song to a different kind of femininity, a rallying, feminist cry for the rewilding of womanhood; reclaiming our role as guardians of the land.
