On the Significance of Juvenile Justice in Dealing with National Socialist and GDR Crimes': Trials against elderly Nazi perpetrators in recent years have highlighted the tension between applying the pedagogically oriented juvenile criminal law and adjudicating the gravest offenses. In the last century, German courts faced this very tension on two occasions. This study examines the role juvenile criminal law has played in coming to terms with Nazi and GDR crimes and explores how the legislature and the courts have managed the resulting conflicts of objectives.
