Flora Annie Steel

Tales Of The Punjab
Step into the heart of Punjab, where every village lane and moonlit courtyard hums with stories passed from lips to eager ears. Tales Of The Punjab: Told By The People, collected by Flora Annie Steel, brings together a captivating anthology of Punjabi folktales-each brimming with the wit, wisdom, and wonder of South Asian fairy tales shaped by centuries of tradition. Here, sly jackals and clever princesses, brave villagers and mysterious spirits animate a world of moral folk stories, painted in the vivid colours of rural India. This celebrated collection is more than an Indian folk tales anthology; it is a living tapestry of Punjab legends and myths, echoing the rhythms of village life and the values that bind communities. Steel's careful retelling, inspired by her years in colonial India, preserves the authentic voice of the people, making these stories as enchanting aloud today as they were around the firelight of the British Raj era. For readers who cherish the folklore study references of Andrew Lang or the immersive India stories of Rudyard Kipling, each tale offers a window into the beliefs, hopes, and humour of a region whose oral tradition shaped generations.Republished by Alpha Editions in a careful modern edition, this volume preserves the spirit of the original while making it effortless to enjoy today-a heritage title prepared for readers and collectors alike.
