Sein literarisches Werk macht den kenianischen Kulturwissenschaftler und Schriftsteller Ngugi wa Thiong'o [Autor u.a. von ¿Herr der Krähen¿, ¿Der gekreuzigte Teufel¿ oder ¿Träume in Zeiten des Krieges¿] seit vielen Jahren zu einem Kandidaten für den Literaturnobelpreis.
