Dr. Wolfgang Weimer-Jehle is head of the CIB-Lab at the Center for Interdisciplinary Risk and Innovation Studies (ZIRIUS) at the University of Stuttgart, Germany. He has been researching and lecturing in the field of scenario methodology for more than 25 years and is the originator of the Cross-Impact Balances (CIB) method, which is meanwhile an internationally established and widely used method for the creation of qualitative scenarios on energy, water, health, and other areas. Dr. Weimer-Jehle has developed the ScenarioWizard software, which is today the standard tool for applying the CIB method.

Dieses Buch führt in die Theorie und Praxis der Cross-Impact-Bilanzanalyse (CIB) ein, die dazu dient, auf Basis von qualitativen Expertenaussagen zu Systemzusammenhängen qualitative Szenarien zu konstruieren. Die Konstruktion der Szenarien erfolgt Software-gestützt auf Basis eines Konsistenzalgorithmus. Das Manuskript beschreibt zunächst das Anwendungsfeld der Methode und erläutert dann Schritt für Schritt die Methodendurchführung anhand eines einfachen Beispiels. Anschließend werden Sekundärauswertungen vorgestellt, mit denen Schlussfolgerungen aus den gewonnenen Szenarien gezogen werden können. Ein weiteres Kapitel behandelt Problemfälle der Methodenanwendung und bietet Hilfestellungen für verschiedene Fälle. Es folgen vertiefte Ausführungen zur Gestaltung der Analyse und zur Erhebung der erforderlichen Daten, bevor einige Beispiele aus der Anwendungspraxis einen Eindruck von der Leistungsfähigkeit der Methode vermitteln. Das Manuskript schließt mit einer Einordnung der Methode und mit der Diskussion ihrer Stärken und Grenzen.
