Apache POI, a project run by the Apache Software Foundation, and previously a sub-project of the Jakarta Project, provides pure Java libraries for reading and writing files in Microsoft Office formats, such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel. The name was originally an acronym for "Poor Obfuscation Implementation", referring humorously to the fact that the file formats seemed to be deliberately obfuscated, but poorly, since they were successfully reverse-engineered. This explanation - and those of the similar names for the various sub-projects - were removed from the official web-pages in order to better market the tools to businesses who would not consider such humour appropriate. The original authors (Andrew C. Oliver and Marc Johnson) also noted the existence of the Hawaiian poi dish, made of mashed taro root, which had similarly derogatory connotations.

Advanced Medical Priority Dispatch System (abgekürzt AMPDS) bezeichnet ein Protokoll zur standardisierten Aufnahme von Notrufen in Rettungsleitstellen. In einem Abfrageschema bestehend aus ca. 20 Fragen, die meistens mit Ja oder Nein beantwortet werden können, wird der Schweregrad eines medizinischen Notfalls bestimmt und das Vorliegen einer lebensbedrohlichen Situation entschieden. Die Fragen reichen von Wo genau ist der Notfallort? über Ist der Betroffene vollkommen wach? bis Blutet der Betroffene stark? Sobald das Vorliegen eines Notfalls festgestellt wird, alarmiert der jeweilige Disponent das adäquate Rettungsmittel und entscheidet im weiteren Verlauf, ob die zusätzliche Entsendung eines Notarztes zum Ort des Geschehens notwendig ist. Das AMPDS ermöglicht eine standardisierte Alarmierung von Einsatzkräften und entbindet den Disponenten von etwaigen Rechtsansprüchen des Patienten und von Seiten Dritter, da der gesamte Sprachverkehr sowie jede Entscheidung genau dokumentiert wird.

Anfang 1979 zog Andreas Banaski aus der Kleinstadt Büchen bei Ratzeburg nach Hamburg, wo er bis heute wohnt. Er arbeitete als Foto-Verkäufer bei Kaufhof und drehte, beeinflusst vom Punk, unter dem Pseudonym Kid P. zusammen mit seinem Freund Donald Fuck einige Super-8-Filme. Diese Filme mit grotesken Bild- und Toncollagen aus der deutschen Zeitgeschichte von 1933 bis 1979 waren bereits durch den humorvoll-provokanten Umgang mit den Themen geprägt, die die deutsche Öffentlichkeit bewegten. Vom Dritten Reich über Krimi-Straßenfeger bis hin zu Fußball-Länderspielen. Zusammen mit Donald Fuck und Johnny Ego bildete Banaski außerdem die Konzept-Band Sid & Su. Ihre drei "Anti-Singles" bestanden aus einem zerbrochenen Stück Platte, einem abgerissenen Stück Kassettenband und diversen Beigaben. Sowohl in seinen Filmen als auch in seinen Texten prägte Banaski einen neuen, collagenhaften Stil - eine Art Sampling avant la lettre.
