Médecine dentaire

This comprehensive atlas illustrates the important relationship between periodontal and systemic health and disease with a wealth of superb illustrations. The periodontium as a part of the oral tissues is of great interest to dentists and its importance extends beyond local disorders to a wide range of conditions that may affect periodontal health. The atlas covers both local and systemic disorders including inflammatory diseases, developmental disorders, metabolic disorders, endocrine disorders, cancer and a vast number of other diseases, that may present with gingival or periodontal lesions. Now in its 2nd edition, Periodontal Manifestations of Local and Systemic Diseases helps periodontists, oral medicine specialists, general dentists, and dental students to diagnose and manage patients with complex medical problems. The book is unique because no other books specifically focused on the periodontal manifestations of oral and systemic diseases have been availablein this form. Nineteen years after the first edition the book has been almost entirely rewritten, expanded and updated. Over 50% of the pictorial material has been renewed and enriched with high quality color images. The book is written by a team of experienced experts and will be a valuable resource for the community.

This book is a detailed guide to the identification and appropriate management of patients who represent a high risk when performing oral and maxillofacial surgery or the complex procedures that are increasingly attempted by general dental practitioners. Emphasis is also placed on evaluation of the medically compromised patient for outpatient anesthesia. The book is systematically divided into a series of chapters focusing on the medical conditions most commonly encountered in practice and on current treatment standards. Each chapter outlines evidence-based guidelines for evaluation of patients to establish whether they are suitable candidates for oral surgery. In addition, commonly encountered clinical management dilemmas are thoroughly explored. Lastly, this book will enable the provider to understand whether there is a need to seek medical clearance before proceeding. It will be an invaluable guide for both oral and maxillofacial surgeons and general dentists.

Progress in the development of surgical implant materials has been hindered by the lack of basic information on the nature of the tissues, organs and systems being repaired or replaced. Materials' properties of living systems, whose study has been conducted largely under the rubric of tissue mechanics, has tended to be more descriptive than quantitative. In the early days of the modern surgical implant era, this deficiency was not critical. However, as implants continue to improve and both longer service life and higher reliability are sought, the inability to predict the behavior of implanted manufactured materials has revealed the relative lack of knowledge of the materials properties of the supporting or host system, either in health or disease. Such a situation is unacceptable in more conventional engineering practice: the success of new designs for aeronautical and marine applications depends exquisitely upon a detailed, disciplined and quantitative knowledge of service environments, including the properties of materials which will be encountered and interacted with. Thus the knowledge of the myriad physical properties of ocean ice makes possible the design and development of icebreakers without the need for trial and error. In contrast, the development period for a new surgical implant, incorporating new materials, may well exceed a decade and even then only short term performance predictions can be made.

This book, now in an extensively revised second edition, offers readers a pragmatic approach to endodontic therapy for permanent molars, based on up-to-date evidence. All chapters are authored by well-known experts in the field, and focus on preparation for treatment, vital pulp therapy, access cavity preparation, root canal shaping, outcome assessment, retreatment, apical surgery, and specific aspects of restorations for root canal-treated molars. Detailed micro-CT data visualizing canal anatomy is compared to cone beam CT and dental magnetic resonance tomography. Clear information is provided on contemporary clinical practices, specific to molar endodontics. Important steps are illustrated in clinical photographs and radiographs, as well as by schematic diagrams. Tables, check lists and boxes highlight key points for special attention and guiding references are provided.Performing molar endodontics is often a daunting prospect, regardless of the practice setting. Technology such as digital imaging, apex locators and nickel-titanium instruments have, however, have made procedures significantly easier and more practical for non-specialists This is where "Molar Endodontics" is an ideal source of guidance. This book will help clinicians master molar endodontics with useful clinical methods.
