The Penguin Book of Cults
A chilling history of the most notorious cults of the past two thousand years<BR><BR>The word "cult" conjures images of people in thrall to a charismatic leader who extracts obedience through lies and threats, and of apocalyptic prophecies, sexual perversion, and mass suicide. From the Celtic druids, whose ritual sacrifices inspired the folk horror film The Wicker Man, all the way up to the Peoples Temple and Heaven's Gate, The Penguin Book of Cults charts the history of our fear of the religious other. <BR><BR>Bringing to light little-known sources such as a "death tape" of Jonestown's final hour, when Jim Jones led more than 900 of his followers to drink poison, and a minute-by-minute log of the FBI's final assault on the Branch Davidian headquarters, and including accounts of drinking the blood of sacrificed cats, theories that we are living inside a hollow earth, and reports that space brothers from Venus are coming to redeem us from the threat of nuclear war, this volume opens a fascinating window into cults and why some of them have ended in spectacular violence.

Organized Crime Provenzano Mafia
From the blood-soaked streets of Corleone to the shadowy boardrooms of international crime, Organized Crime Provenzano Mafia reveals the brutal rise and secretive reign of one of Sicily's most feared Mafia bosses, Bernardo Provenzano.Born into poverty and silence, Provenzano emerged from the violent traditions of the Corleonesi faction to become a master strategist, reshaping Cosa Nostra through ruthless pragmatism and calculated control. His journey traces the Mafia's evolution from feudal enforcers and local strongmen to a clandestine empire that infiltrated politics, business, and international drug trafficking.Through vivid storytelling and meticulous research, this book exposes the brutal apprenticeship under Luciano Leggio, the bloody wars that reshaped the Sicilian underworld, and Provenzano's quiet transformation into the "Tractor"-a relentless figure whose ability to outmaneuver rivals and evade the law made him a legend in organized crime.More than just a biography, this work delves into the cultural roots of omertà, the code of silence that bound communities to Cosa Nostra, and the ways in which systemic poverty, corruption, and fear allowed the Mafia to flourish for generations. Readers are taken inside the hidden rituals, codes, and ruthless strategies that sustained an empire built on blood and loyalty.Gripping, dark, and uncompromising, Organized Crime Provenzano Mafia is an unflinching portrait of power, fear, and survival in the Sicilian Mafia-essential reading for anyone who wants to understand the true face of organized crime.
