[Peasants' War between Unstrut and Elbe. The uprisings of 1525 in what is now Saxony-Anhalt] In 1524/25, uprisings broke out across many regions of the Holy Roman Empire. Numerous riots also took place between the Unstrut and Elbe rivers. The rebels recorded their demands in writing, while bishops and counts negotiated with them. The nobility either resorted to violent countermeasures or participated in the unrest. For the first time, the contributions to this conference will examine the largely overlooked uprisings in what is now Saxony-Anhalt, with a particular focus on events in the bischoprics and towns, the territory of the Ernestine princes, the Mansfeld mining region, and individual monasteries. Additionally, the conference will highlight key figures such as Thomas Müntzer, the archaeological traces of the uprising, and its later reception.
