Franz Kafka (3 July 1883 - 3 June 1924) was a German-speaking Bohemian novelist and short-story writer, widely regarded as one of the major figures of 20th-century literature. His work fuses elements of realism and the fantastic.It typically features isolated protagonists facing bizarre or surrealistic predicaments and incomprehensible socio-bureaucratic powers. It has been interpreted as exploring themes of alienation, existential anxiety, guilt, and absurdity. Franz Kafka schrieb den Roman »Das Schloss« 1922, vollendete ihn aber zunächst nicht. Das Buch erschien posthum 1926. Ein Dorf, unterhalb eines Schlosses ohne nähere geografische Bestimmung liegt, von wo aus es beherrscht wird. Ein Fremder namens K folgt einer angeblichen Einladung aus dem Schloss und reist von weither an, um als Landvermesser zu arbeiten, doch alle Versuche, mit der Schlossbehörde in Kontakt zu kommen, scheitern. Allmählich beginnt K., sich wie die anderen Dorfbewohner der undurchsichtigen Macht des Schlosses zu beugen.
