Kate Chopin (1850-1904) was an American author known for her pioneering exploration of women's independence and complex social themes. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, she began writing fiction in the late 19th century, drawing heavily on her experiences in Louisiana. Chopin's works often examine the constraints of societal expectations and the inner lives of her characters. Her most famous novel, The Awakening (1899), shocked contemporary audiences with its frank depiction of female autonomy and sensuality.
