Produktinformationen "Fitzgerald - The Great Gatsby. English Edition."

When F. Scott Fitzgerald's famous novel "The Great Gatsby" was first published in 1925, its author received raving reviews from numerous fellow writers, but it was not until the post-war decades that his masterpiece received the worldwide recognition it deserved. Poignantly and with subtle finesse, Fitzgerald tells the story of the dazzling upstart Jay Gatsby, who celebrates lavish parties on his estate in order to win back his lost love - a story about the power of great feelings and the painful failure of a romantic dream. This edition presents the grandiose classic of American literature in a special hardcover edition with silver foil embossing.

  • »Whenever you feel like criticizing any one," he told me, "just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had.« Nick Carraway

Autor/in

F. Scott Fitzgerald

Francis Scott Fitzgerald (1896-1940) came to New York in the Roaring Twenties to live his dream and, together with his wife Zelda, soon became one of the city's most sought-after celebrities. His novels "The Beautiful and the Damned" (1922) and "The Great Gatsby" (1925), set in the luxurious world of the American moneyed aristocracy, became instant bestsellers. In 1937, the author moved to Los Angeles and worked as a screenwriter in Hollywood.

The Beautiful and Damned
Designed to appeal to the book lover, the Macmillan Collector's Library is a series of beautifully bound pocket-sized gift editions of much loved classic titles. Bound in real cloth, printed on high quality paper, and featuring ribbon markers and gilt edges, Macmillan Collector's Library are books to love and treasure. The Beautiful and Damned, F. Scott Fitzgerald's second novel, tells the story of Anthony Patch, a 1920s socialite and presumptive heir to a tycoon's fortune, the relationship with his wife Gloria, his service in the army, and alcoholism. Anthony and Gloria are young and gorgeous, rich and leisured and they dedicate their lives to the pursuit of happiness and we follow the intimate story of their marriage as it disintegrates under the weight of their expectations, fuelled by dissipation, jealousy and aimlessness. Fitzgerald skilfully portrays the Eastern elite as the Jazz Age begins its ascent, engulfing all classes into what will soon be known as Café Society. As with all of his other novels, it is a brilliant character study and is also an early account of the complexities of marriage and intimacy, largely based on Fitzgerald's relationship and marriage with Zelda Fitzgerald. With an afterword by Ned Halley.

The Great Gatsby
Generally considered to be F. Scott Fitzgerald's finest novel, The Great Gatsby is a consummate summary of the "roaring twenties", and a devastating expose of the 'Jazz Age'.Through the narration of Nick Carraway, the reader is taken into the superficially glittering world of the mansions which lined the Long Island shore in the 1920s, to encounter Nick's cousin Daisy, her brash but wealthy husband Tom Buchanan, Jay Gatsby and the mystery that surrounds him.The Great Gatsby is an undisputed classic of American literature from the period following the First World War and is one of the great novels of the twentieth century. Mazisi Olan Kadin
Bütün oglanlarin büyümeyi saplanti haline getirmeleri cok eski bir gelenektir. Bunun sebebi, zaman zaman gencligin kisitlamalari karsisindaki sabirsizliklarini kelimelere dökmeleri, buna karsilik, cocuk olmaktan son derece memnun olduklari uzun zamanlarin kelimelerde degil, eylemde ifade bulmasidir.
